Parents, my name is Jake Kuhner.  I am the new Head Football Coach at Canal Winchester.  I’m sorry I have not been able to have a big parent meeting yet due to COVID protocol at the school, but I have met some of you in passing, and I’m very excited to start full time with the players!

I have attached our summer schedule to this email (CLICK HERE).  I just wanted to reach out before we get started in the summer with lifting, conditioning, and practice.  It is important for your child to be at lifting and conditioning this summer.  This is a major preparation period for our program, and we are also switching some things around on defense, offense, and special teams this year.  These things will be taught and installed over the summer and team camp with the OHSAA allowing us to have contact/coach our kids all summer because of the limitations we had to endure last year.  Our mask rule is still in effect with athletics and being on campus.  We are going to follow all the regulations to keep our players safe and healthy when dealing with COVID protocol.  We are also getting a weight room installed by the end of the month and early June.  It’s VERY EXCITING, and it will be more functional for our players!!!!  I will be sending out information from time to time this summer, and I would also like to look into using a program called Team APP for the parents.  You can download the App, and search for “Canal Winchester Football” to join.  You will have to write a brief description (just type in “add”).  This is what the App looks like:
For summer workouts, I know vacations, and summer sports happen.  We are working out from 8-10am Monday, Wednesday, Friday.  We would like everyone to be in attendance on those days (as many kids as possible).  If you are going out of town or have things going on that do not allow your child to be there, PLEASE have THEM speak with me or a coach.  It is not your job as a parent to let me know why your son was not at practice, conditioning, or lifting unless they are not physically able to tell me.  I am a big proponent of our players advocating for themselves and communicating with their coaches and myself.  They need a voice, and they need to use their voice to speak with us like young men.  I will make sure that my phone number is available to your child so they can contact me with last minute things or if they need to let me know about vacations, trips, sports, etc. that are going on that are not allowing them to make it to workouts.  I will also say that summer workouts are not mandatory by any means, but they are expected if your child wants to be a big part of our football program.  I have about 100 parents on this email, so please do not hit “reply all.”  If you have a pressing question or concern, please feel free to email me back.

I am still finishing up my school year and the track season at my current school, but be assured, when I get done, I will be spending countless hours with your kids to make sure the best team and program we can present to the Canal Winchester Community is out there. We are currently having “open field” for our incoming 9-12th grade players on Sundays @ 12pm.  If they are playing a sport right now, they should not be coming to this because they should be focusing on the post-season right now.  I hope you all have a great rest of the week, and my door is always open.  Make it a great day!
